Socio-Economy
Taungya places strong emphasis on socio-economic advancement as a pillar of its mission in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Its programmes focus on empowering disadvantaged communities through livelihood development, entrepreneurship, cooperative systems, and access to education and health services. By promoting self-reliance, equity, and gender sensitivity, Taungya works to reduce poverty and strengthen resilience among marginalized groups. The organization integrates traditional governance and Indigenous cooperative practices with modern approaches, ensuring that economic progress remains culturally appropriate and sustainable. Through training, advocacy, and partnerships, Taungya’s socio-economic initiatives help communities build secure livelihoods, protect their rights, and achieve inclusive development.
PRLC Project – Partnership for Resilient Livelihoods in the CHT Region
Taungya is implementing the Partnership for Resilient Livelihoods in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (PRLC) Project, supported by Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) with funding from the European Union. The project is being carried out in Dumdummya and Moidong unions of Jurachari Upazila, Rangamati Hill District, with the aim of strengthening the livelihoods and resilience of extremely poor jum cultivators and farmers.
The PRLC Project focuses on improving food security and income generation through Integrated Farming Models and Farmer Field Schools, while also promoting nutrition, sanitation, and disaster risk reduction. Gender mainstreaming is a core component, ensuring that women and marginalized groups are actively included in all interventions. By combining livelihood development with social safety nets and community empowerment, the project helps vulnerable households build resilience against poverty, climate change, and socio-economic challenges.
Through participatory approaches and Indigenous knowledge integration, the PRLC Project contributes to sustainable development in the CHT, empowering communities to secure their rights, protect their environment, and achieve long-term socio-economic advancement.
