Core Focus

Taungya’s mission is to serve the disadvantaged and marginalized peoples of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT). Its programs are designed for those living in remote and semi‑remote areas, where access to services and opportunities is limited. Taungya ensures that development is inclusive, culturally respectful, and rights‑based.

Target Groups

Taungya’s interventions focus on:

  • Children and Adolescents – ensuring access to education, health, and protection.
  • Youth – building leadership, skills, and career pathways in the development sector.
  • Women and Girls – promoting gender equity, safeguarding, and empowerment.
  • Marginalized Communities – Indigenous peoples, vulnerable occupational groups, jum cultivators, PWD, and disadvantaged households etc.
  • Traditional Leaders – Karbaris (village chiefs), Headmen (mauza chiefs) and Circle Chiefs strengthening customary governance.
  • Local Governance Institutions – Union Parishads, Upazila Parishads, Hill District Councils, and the CHT Regional Council.
  • Civil Society and Networks – CBOs, NGOs, and advocacy platforms working for rights and sustainability.
  • Disadvantaged Groups – unemployed adults, differently‑abled persons, and socially excluded populations.

Strategic Engagement

Taungya ensures that its work is community‑driven and participatory. It engages target groups through:

  • Capacity Building – training, workshops, and organizational strengthening.
  • Community Mobilization – collective action rooted in Indigenous traditions such as Maleya (volunteerism).
  • Research & Advocacy – amplifying community voices in policy dialogues.
  • Partnerships – linking communities with government institutions, donors, agencies, networks, alliances/association, development partners etc.
