Education
Education is one of the core theme of Taungya
Education is one of Taungya’s foundational pillars, shaping the future of children and youth in the remote and disadvantaged communities of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT). For decades, Taungya has worked to bridge gaps in access, strengthen community schools, and promote inclusive, culturally sensitive learning environments. Our education initiatives are designed not only to provide literacy and numeracy skills but also to foster holistic development, preparing children and adolescents to become confident, capable leaders of tomorrow.
Key Focus Areas
- Non-Formal Primary Education: Delivering community-based schooling where formal systems are absent, ensuring that marginalized children are not left behind.
- Teacher Capacity Building: Training and mentoring teachers to improve classroom quality, pedagogy, and child-centered approaches.
- Community Engagement: Working with local governance leaders, traditional institutions, and parents to strengthen ownership of education systems.
- Holistic Development: Integrating health, nutrition, gender sensitivity, and cultural identity into education programs.
Flagship Initiatives
- BRAC NFPE Bridge Schools Project Taungya implements the BRAC Non-Formal Primary Education (NFPE) Bridge Schools Project in Borkol Upazila, supporting ten community schools. This initiative provides financial assistance, strengthens teacher capacity, and ensures inclusive learning opportunities for children from marginalized ethnic groups. By bridging formal and non-formal education, Taungya empowers children with the skills and confidence needed for a brighter future.
- MJF Education Programme In partnership with the Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF), Taungya expands access to quality education in remote CHT villages. The program builds community schools, enhances teacher training, and promotes inclusive education that respects Indigenous culture and identity. It integrates education with broader goals of equity, gender sensitivity, and community empowerment, preparing children for secure and resilient futures.
- Delivering health and nutrition messages to mothers’ groups and adolescent’s groups.
- Supporting Farmer Field Schools to integrate climate-resilient agricultural knowledge with education, ensuring that learning is practical and linked to livelihoods.
